Harry M. Tjardes Scholarship Available

Harry M. Tjardes loved Polled Hereford cattle and never met a person that he did not like. Harry passed away on March 14, 2008, but his memory and spirit will live on with his family, friends and Hereford breeders across the country. Harry knew the importance of a good education, was a proponent of continuous learning, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. This scholarship is designed to recognize those youth that exhibit many of the same qualities that Harry portrayed throughout his life.

Purpose:

Award 1 (one) $1,000 scholarship to the most deserving member of the Illinois Junior Hereford Association (IJHA) to aid in the financing of their college education.

Requirements:

l Must be a paid member of the Illinois Junior Hereford Association (IJHA). The individual can raise/exhibit either Polled or Horned Hereford cattle.
l Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 21 years of age, have attained at least the status of a high school senior, and be an Illinois resident. An individual may be awarded this prestigious scholarship only one time.
l Provide evidence of acceptance or enrollment in a 4-year college or university. Examples include a letter of acceptance, transcript, or tuition bill.

NJHA Junior Golden Bull and Prospect Awards: April 2^nd

This year all applications for these are submitted online.

JNHE Ambassador Internship: April 15

New program this year for 2012 graduates and older. Three internships to help out during the week of JNHE! If you aren’t showing in Grand Island this year, this would be a great way to be in on the action!

2012 Preview Show in Georgetown, IL : June 16-17

Show info and entries will be available at www.ilpha.com around May 1^st. Entry deadline will be June 1^st.

2012 JNHE in Grand Island, NE: July 2-8

These dates are a little different than normal so check your hotel reservations!

2012 PRIDE Convention in East Lansing, MI: July 29 – Aug 2

Ask any junior who has attended one of these and they will tell you it’s a great time! PRIDE scholarships for those 16 and over are offered by the IPHA. That info will be available online with the preview show info.

Junior Officer Election Information

ELECTION OF IJHA OFFICERS will take place during the Annual Meeting at the Preview Show on June 18, 2011 in Salem. The Executive Board positions up for re-election will be President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, 2nd Secretary, and Treasurer. (President is a two year term)

To expedite the election process during our busy show weekend and meeting, this is the procedure to follow if you are interested in running for any of these Executive Board positions. Please send a written paragraph as to why you would like to hold this office, including a parent signature. This is to assure the nominating committee that you have parental support to get you to each and every meeting. Also, please have one letter of recommendation attached, this letter can be from a teacher, coach or adult that is not your parent. Address it to the nominating committee and send to Vicki Miller 7318 Stone School Rd. Leaf River, IL 61047 or email: gvmiller5@signalblast.com no later than June 10th.
